Hi, My name is Steve Halligan and here is a brief introduction.
I grew up in Ireland before leaving home comforts when I was 21 years old to explore the world. I currently live in New Zealand, and it is here that my passion for cycling grew exponentially, especially in the unsupported Ultra-Endurance scene. My adventures have uncovered new horizons and profound lessons about life, resilience, and the human spirit.
My experiences have imparted a deep sense of mindfulness and self-awareness, highlighting the importance of staying present and appreciating each moment. I see it as a holistic experience, with all its nuances revealing insights that go beyond the bike. This sport has given me a huge sense of purpose and drive, way beyond what I would have ever thought before.
After selling my business and moving away from Hanmer Springs in New Zealand's South Island and then breaking my leg whilst racing the Tour Te Waipounamu, 2024 has been a big year, a transition year.
What has been birthed out of it all is Holistic Endurance, a safe and nurturing space where I want to empower riders to push their limits and reach their goals. I have a deep desire to share what I know from my ten years of Ultra-Endurance racing with riders looking to reach big personal goals; whether they are newbies to the sport or experienced racers, I believe I have something valuable to offer.
I've made plenty of mistakes along the way, and the learnings from these mistakes got me through many challenging situations, and still, I learn from each adventure. This sport can be incredibly tough and, at the same time, incredibly rewarding.
